 Fall PREVIEW - Hot Picks

One of the best things about a new season is writing this column. You all know how enthusiastic we are and this collection has the three of us giddy. We’re so excited that it’s impossible for us to agree on what to highlight. So we present Sandy, Marcie and Ilene’s favorites.

  JACKETS
S: Elliot Lauren’s 3/4 sleeve dressmaker jacket in crushed cloque for daytime or evening. Check out the funky fuschia lining.

M: Super novelty item jackets from Tib in imprinted, textured polar fleece.

I: Treadle’s clipped chenille artwear jacket with frog closure. It looks like something you’d find in a craft gallery.

  OUTERWEAR
After a winter like last one. . .

S: I flipped over Barbara B’s fantastic coat in red and black houndstooth. Believe it or not, I can’t wait ‘til it gets cold.

M: OK, I already have a few, but I’ll add to my collection with Mycra Pak’s fiber-filled bomber . . . but will I choose bronze, silver or red?

I: Maralyce Ferree’s Chesapeake swing jacket in iridescent nylon reverses to cozy sherpa fleece.

SKIRTS
S: The 25’”suede skirt with crocheted trim by Provence d’Amour.

M: Drama’s great fitting micro fiber skirt with handkerchief hem.

I: Double tiered, ankle length silk prints from Balinger Gold.

SWEATERS
S: Don’t make me choose between the reversibles, two-toned or bright basic cashmeres.

M: Curio has two patchwork cardigans. One’s long, the other’s short. . . . and I want them both.

I: I’m passionate about hand knits. I like the plum and navy marled cardigan from Por Tois: trés chic!

TROUSERS
S: My vote goes for Blue Dot’s flannel-lined pants, a great alternative to my Christopher Blue and Cambio jeans.

M: I’m into corduroy, and so was Seventh Avenue; baggies from Mod-o-Doc, cargos from For Joseph and stretch from Elliott Lauren. Impossible to choose, I recommend them all.

I: A guaranteed great fit for just about everyone – Drama’s microfiber “miracle pant.” See for yourself on September 11-13, at the Drama trunk show.

SUITING
S: Our friend Annie Kolson designs for DRAMA. After thirty years in the business she knows what she is doing and knows what women want. My favorite part of this wonderful collection is the microfiber stretch separates.  I know what I want - the five button unlined jacket and miracle pant in that gorgeous cabernet.

M: This is our 6th season with Yansi Fugel and I’m still in love. I’ve already put my name on the red/black reversible jacket and scarf. It will work with all my black pieces, and you know I have a few.

I: I’m a sucker for anything vintage, so I always look forward to Agi Brooks and it didn’t take long to find my favorite - an outrageous black crepe jacket with brocade front.

ACTIVEWEAR
What we’ve been calling ‘sweats’ for years are now being marketed as spa wear. An alternative to jeans and no longer limited to the locker room, these comfy clothes are in new fabrics and can go anywhere.

ACCESSORIES
S: The minute I saw this necklace, I knew it would be mine. In fact, the first time I wore it, I sold two.

M: It’s not fair to describe Leni Hoch’s gorgeous scarves, they have to be seen.

I: We found what I think is the perfect tote: a fashionable and functional lightweight microfiber bag that has a place for everything. We like it so much we bought it for our entire staff.

This isn't for me - it's for the economy.
